Oliver Twist.
Not so long ago
Alston took a starring role in the Alan Bleasdale adaptation of
Oliver Twist shown on ITV. For a few weeks Alston's own identity
was concealed behind the façade of Bruntmarsh and all our lives
became inextricably linked with the making of the film. Sometimes
it was difficult to separate fiction from reality. A town trail
was set up to allow visitors to the town to see how the town was
used. Although the town is now back to normal and the trail is
officially over you can still visit the website to find out more
information.

most popular visitor attraction. The South Tynedale Railway has
many special events and themed (Thomas the Tank Engine) days
